My favorite Willamette Week issue of the year, Best New Band, is on newsstands now (almost a day late, after the bands’ awesomeness apparently broke WW’s printers).
For what WW calls “Portland’s music insiders"—aka Portland’s music nerds—the BNB poll is an excuse to geek out about our deeply talented, continually surprising music scene. But the list isn’t for us. BNB’s raison d'être is to serve as a point of entry to the scene, by spotlighting a manageable 10 local acts worth giving a listen.
2013’s list is a good, diverse one. Personally, I voted for Shy Girls, the winner, and Sun Angle, the number-three band. My other BNB stones, I cast for Like a Villain, Vice Device, and Litanic Mask; they’re great, too. As with every BNB, I haven’t heard much from some of the acts on the list. Let the retroactive listening begin!
