I reviewed Blouse’s new album, Imperium, for Portland Monthly’s September issue.
As I write in the review, what I wanted from Blouse’s sophomore record was an evolution away from the band’s ‘80s synth-pop reverence (which—though I like this group a lot—I’ve been a little skeptical of since profiling them last year for Willamette Week). Imperium delivers, with a more rock-oriented sound, less tentative songwriting, and the same outstanding production.
P.S. For a Blouse primer, check out the playlist I put together at the bottom of the review.
